This is a great website. I am
following up on my grandmother's
genealogical research.She was Mary Sarah
CARTER. She married a Christopher Rogers
WINTER. They were both journalist in the
Atlanta, Georgia area. She had
researched back as far a John ROGERS.
John ROGERS would be my 4th great
grandparent. Your research confirmed
some of hers. She indicates this ROGERS
were of the Mayflower line.
ADMIN:
Thank you. I have not been able to
determine where the Rogers came from
yet. In the past 8 years, the
theory developed regarding John's father
as being Jacob. We only know when
he died, nothing more than that.

Hello, do you know if your Earley
Crawford Rogers (50vi) was a
photographer? Have been trying to find
info. on the photographer of some
Dahlonega gold mining stereoviews I
have. Believe the cards id him as Early
Rogers of Gainesville, Ga.

ADMIN:
Yes and YES... EARLY was a photographer
in Gainesville, GA. I wish I had
your email address so we could compare.
When Early left GA to come to Texas, he
was photographing the migration of the
train growth through this part of the
country. We have several picture of the
ancestry that had been taken by him. He
was the brother to my ancestor Enoch.

I wish to thank you for your time,
trouble and expense yu have gone to to
put togather this information.
I am Horace Clifton Randolph, a
genealogiest-researcher of the Randolph
families. The information on Sarah
Adeline was information I did not have.
I had known there was a Sarah A.
Randolph assioated with the John "Capt.
Jack" Randolph family who I have never
been able to place in a acceptiable
place. I had information that Capt. Jack
and his 2nd wife had either addopted or
raised a Pettyjohn child. I hav no name
for this susposed child.
I do not deny thjat Sarah Adeline is
not the child of Capt. Jack Randolph but
do state is is very questionable. I have
researched the Randolphs of Jackson Co
and Clark Co., Ga. very closely. The
only Randolph I find were Capt. Jack and
his group and Peter Randolph in what
became Clark Co., when it was
established. Peter is of the Henry
Randolph I line and Capt Jack descends
from the Joseph of Spotsylvania line.
Even with DNA teasting we find these two
line not from the same common ancestor
in the last 500 years. I know for a fact
that Sarah Adeline is not a child of
Peter Randolph.
For Sarah Adeline Randolph to be the
child of Capt Jack and his wife Nancy
Ann Hinton she would have had to be born
after Tandy Key Randolph. This would
have made her the 13 child of this
marriage. The birth would have had to
have been 1817 or later for it is not
possible for her to have fit into the
family at a earlier date because of so
many births.
Nancy Hinton was born in 1776 and
would have been at the end of her child
bearing age by this time and the birth
could have been possible but not likely.
Giving Sarah a date of birth by the
time of her husband could leave a
possiblity of her being a child of Capt.
Jack and Nancy but that would make her
about age 30 when she married and then
she to have had 8 children all with in
the 12 years shown is very unlikely but
possible. Nancy would have been age 42
or more.
The names of the children DO SUGGEST
very strongly that the belong to the
Capt. Jack family but where is my
question. Is she a child of Capt. Jack
or maybe a granddaughter? If a
grandchild which son is the father? My
research show that not a very likely
possibility as I have the familys of all
these children both male and female and
this is very unlikely.

Thank you for your nice comments.
Researching our ancestry can be time
consuming and expensive but rewarding
when we crack a clue and find more
names. The main thrust of my
investigations centers around the names
of Rogers, Hardin and Hughes, however, I
never forget the side lines or the
married names or other folks I run
across. They may lead me down another
path that gets the answer I am looking
for. Thanks again for your nice

My great aunt was a Lizzie Terry and
she is buried in North Ga, but this
birth date would be too a bit young to
be her. The Terry/Jones/Mull family
history gets very convuluted in NW
Georgia as I recall a few generations
back some Mull sisters married some
Terry brothers, before that some Jones
brothers married some Mull sisters.
>>>> Burial Location: Buford Cem,
Buford, Ga. On her tombstone reads,
"Rest mother rest in a quiet sleep,
while friends in sorrow, o're thee weep"
In the same plot are W.R. Terry b

rocitwumun@aol.com I came serching
for the Pettyjohns and only found one
mentioned. I have a xerox copy of a book
written by Jonas Pettyjohn, a brother to
one of my great-great gma's. His dad was
Thomas, his sister, my gggma, was Hannah.
This is where the confusion comes in.
Thomas had a brother named John, who
married a widow lady, whose name had
previously been McCalgin. WIdow McCalgin
had a son, David, who John adopted,
giving him the name of Pettyjohn. So
David (Thomas'adopted son) and Hannah
(Thomas' brother John's daughter)(That
was fun) fell in love and got married.
Their daughter, Temperance, married
Thomas Hope, who begat Edwin, who begat
Carl, my gpa. Any body have any ideas on
who Widow McCalgin is? Or Have any info
on the Pettyjohns from Jonas? He stated
his gg fols were brothers, Absolom and I
can't remember now, Little. Their wives
were cousins. But That's as far as I
know and that's on this side of the big
puddle. Jonas was a preacher man back
east, one out of thirteen kids. By the
way, how did I get here?

I, too, am looking for a copy of Kith
and Kin of Georgia Ridge. I know that
Mary Avilla Abel collected the
information and printed it with a
pre-selling of the book to heads of
household (and perhaps others) who were
listed in the book. I don't know if Mary
Avilla Abel is still living, but if she
is we may be able to persuade her to
commit to another printing. I am leaving
my e-mail address should anyone have
information concerning her or this book.
There seems to be substantial interest
in the book to sustain a second
printing. My family figures prominently
in the book and I know I would love to
have a copy.

My ROGERS are out of ANSON/
MONTGOMERY CO's NC and they owned land
along the LONG CREEK, RILES CREEK, and
CURL TAIL CREEK area of Montgomery Co.
NC in 1779-1823. My own branch of the
ROGERS who lived there in 1823 was the
family of WILLIAM L. ROGERS b. 1770
Montgomery Co. NC and he moved with
his wife NANCY and their 11 children,
( including some who were grown and
had spouses and children of their own
) to CARROLL CO. TN by Dec. 1823.
These Rogers are said to be out of
JAMES ROGERS, Jr. b. abt. 1745 (
father of WILLIAM b. 1770 NC ;
Frederick b. 1765 NC; John b. 1775 NC;
Zachariah b. bet. 1770-1780 NC and 3
UNKNOWN DAUGHTERS ). James ROGERS Jr.
b. abt. 1746 Anson Co. NC is said to
be son of JAMES ROGERS, Sr. b. bet.
1700-1720 and he is said to either be
a son or brother of the JOHN ROGERS
the ULSTER SCOT of CABARRUS CO. NC. If
so, I imagine as most listed this JOHN
ROGERS the ULSTER SCOT being b. abt.
1710 and had arrived in wilderness of
NC in 1732 from PA they were brothers
if kin. ( JOHN ROGERS ULSTER SCOT
arrived in 1732 from PA in that NC
wilderness region which became
Cabarrus Co. NC after ANSON was formed
in 1750 ).
So my question to you is do you
think your JOHN ROGERS b. abt. 1767
could be from that region of NC in
ANSON / MONTGOMERY / STANLY CO. NC ?
Other Rogers lived in Mecklenburg and
Rowan Co. NC ( both had been ANSON
Earlier ) and we know from history on
JOHN ROGERS the ULSTER SCOT that he
most likely died in Mecklenburg Co. NC
abt. 1781. His first born child was
JOSEPH ROGERS b. 1735 in the ROCKY
RIVER SETTLEMENT area of what is today
CABARRUS CO. NC, but back then had
been the NC Wilderness, then BLADEN
CO. NC, then it was taken into form
Anson Co. NC in 1750. By 1774, ANSON
CO. NC Petition listed signers JAMES
ROGERS, Sr. , JAMES ROGERS, JR. ( both
my line ) and a JOHN ROGERS. They
signed this petition to build a road
across their property which lay in
ANSON CO. N C in 1774, and by 1779
that ROGERS land was taken into form
MONTGOMERY CO. NC. By 1841 the same
ROGERS land was then taken into form
STANLY CO. NC. By 1823, my Branch of
the ROGERS lines in Montgomery Co. N C
had moved on into TN, but later into
ARKANSAS by 1870. GREEN D. BERRY
ROGERS b. 1825 TN, who d. 1879 in
Boone Co. AR is my G. Grandfather out
of father BASIL ROGERS b. 1794 NC d.
1856 TN. Basil was the son of WILLIAM
L. ROGERS b. 1770 NC d. 1842 in
Carroll Co. TN. So on the AR Mortality
Schedule for GREEN BERRY ROGERS it had
that his parents were both born in GA,
and we know that BASIL ROGERS and wife
REBECCA are said on most documents to
have been born in NC. But there could
be a GA connection to our ROGERS that
we are unaware of.
If you find that you trace back
into the region of ANSON CO. NC (
which incorporated a lot of the
southern part of NC in 1750 ) then
please contact me for further data on
our ROGERS lines. Many are trying to
put together the vast ROGERS family
out of JOHN ROGERS the ULSTER SCOT and
there is such scant data on him, that
by pooling what little data we have on
our earliest ROGERS is most helpful to
us all. Tina Rogers Beller, jkpb3@bellsouth.net

Hello, I'm a Bennett from Texas.
Family moved from Ga. sometime around
1867. I know very little about their

Oklahama and then later trickled down to
Texas around 1885. Keep up the good

Hello there! My name is Paul A.
Rogers and I have been diong research on
my family and I have hit that Brick
Wall! My gggrandfather was William
Harvey Rogers(10-14-1842 to
5-14-1940)born in Tenn. but was raised
in La Fayette, Walker Co. GA. He served
in the Civil War in the GA Cavalry 12th
Regiment F. After the war he traveled to
LA. where he settled in Claiborne
Parish. This is all the history I have
on William H.'s parents and siblings:
parents: James H. (1816 NC) and Mary
(1821 Tenn.) Rogers childern:
Florence(1859), Oscar(1853), Eliza
(1849), William H. (1842-1940), and
Sarah H.(1841). All birth years are
(+/-) 1 year. Walker Co. GA Census 1850
& 1880 varifies this. 1850 Census shows
James H. Rogers was a Tailor. 1880 show
him as a Postmaster and Mary deceased. I
strongly believe that they are burried
in La Fayette, Walker Co. GA. If anyone
can help or would like to discuss this
Rogers line, please email me at:

Paul Rogers

Great site. Lovesyann Elizabeth
Rogers is my great grandmother. She died
Mar. 4, 1946, just 10 days after I was
born in Ca. My mother was devastated
because she couldn't go to the funeral.

Hiya, Sue, long time, no newsletter.
Somewhere I have an ever-livin' PILE
of prints from fiche of all the Parker
Co. newspapers from the 1800s and on. I
got the obit. of Charlsie Ann Bennett
Rogers (died of "locked bowels" in the
back of a wagon on the way to
Weatherford for medical care), and scads
of stuff on their zillion or so kids. I
also have the Albright family tree that
I somehow ended up with from (I think)
Latova in the late 70s.
If I don't find this stuff someday
I'm going back to the fiche and re-print
it all out again.
Give me a holler sometime, or better
yet, a newsletter. :)

This is a great website. To bad some
low lifes insist upon putting trash in
the comment section.
Good luck to you folks for the
website. I really appreciate your hard
work.
ADMIN: I
agree, it took me an hour to get rid of
it all.
